UAE billionaire is funding India’s most expensive film

India is the world’s most prolific film producing nation. It makes over 2000 films in more than 10 languages every year. No one can match this elsewhere in the world. And the grand dreams require huge amount of money.

Now UAE based billionaire B.R. Shetty is putting $150 million to make the movie “The Mahabharat”. It will be the India’s most expensive film of all time.

The Mahabharat is one of the major Sanskrit epic of ancient India. It is a narrative of the Kuruksetra war and the fates of the Kaurava and the Pandava princes. It also contains philosophical and devotional material.

The Mahabharat is the longest known epic poem and has been described as “The longest poem ever written”. It consist of 100,000 shloka and long prose passages having about 1.8 million words in total.

The Mahabharat will be shot in multiple Indian languages and later dubbed in leading foreign languages too.

It promises to bring together “crème de la crème of Indian and global cinema” and also ensure “the film has an identity across continents”. Shetty estimated that film would reach 3 billion people, which is a little less than half the world’s population.

The Mahabharat is very vast so, the film will be produced in two parts. Shooting will start by September 2018 and release in early 2020.

The second part will be released within 90 days of the first.
