The World’s first Railless train unveiled in China

Railway transportation is comparatively cheap than other medium but the initial cost to set up the tracks is high, means the initial cost of establishment is high. That’s why the trains are normally used for long routes not for city transportation. But, China’s CRRC Zhuzhou Institute Co Ltd has come up with an innovative solution and has built and demonstrated the world’s first Railless train. This electric train will run along the regular roads with the help of rubber tires instead of steel wheels.railless train

This whole electric system is named as “Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (ART) and is 9m long with the top speed of 70 km/h. This Railless train can go up to 40 km on a full charge of its battery. It can carry up to 300 passengers with the help of 3 compartments but it can be increased to 500 by adding an extra couple of compartments.

In some photos, it looks like the vehicle will automatically follow the painted lines on the road and is fully autonomous but the company clarifies that “it is equipped with sensors that can read the dimensions of the road and plan its own route.”railless train

The company didn’t say anything about the prevention of the collision on the roads. And it has a seat in the front compartment for a human operator, so it’s clear that this train is not fully autonomous. According to the government of Zhuzhou city in Hunan province, a 6.5-kilometer ART line will be built through downtown Zhuzhou and operations will start in 2018.

This innovative concept is the result of hybridization between two different vehicles the Train and the Bus. This vehicle will be useful to transport more passengers as compared to the bus, plus it is powered by electricity, so the harmful emission to the atmosphere will be zero.
